Proteins decorated with polymer chains are called
protein-polymer conjugates. These conjugates are
very important in medicine and nanotechnology
Polymers were synthesized to have one end that
reacts with proteins using a special initiator
for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP).
The reaction with proteins results in a
reversible disulfide bond and is specific for one
type of amino acid called a cysteine.
