Scenario - Before Serials Solutions implementation
  • Unsatisfied with existing methods of keeping up
    with e-resources

    resources
  • Not sure of all the titles we subscribe to
  • Not satisfied with usage statistics. Were we
    getting bang for our bucks?

  • Need to check multiple resource in quest for
    requested by patrons titles

11
What were we trying to accomplish?
  • Reduce search times and increase use of available
    resources
  • Operate our library more efficiently
  • Save by spending them wisely
  • Generate additional income ?

What we had to identify
  • Electronic Resources
  • Types of resources
  • Evaluate how we handle e-resources subscribed to
    and why
  • Types of patrons allowed to access them
  • Create Toll booths traffic control

have enough records available if not contact III
Jenkins has unlimited number of records
  • Check your load tables

Getting ready for load cntd.
  • Show them to your Implementation Team members
  • Make sure that the Team is finished picking all
databases you want to include in this project. If
they did communicate this to Serial Solutions so
  • they can start working on your set of records
  • Stay on the top of things
  • Test
  • Involve other staff members in testing
  • Verify, verify, verify

63
Time to rethink?
  • With so much data to examine and evaluate would
it be more effective to look for what wasnt
    there?
  • Developed a list of valid subject tags after much
    trial and error

64
No subject search
65
The records needing subject headings are at hand
66
The editing continues .
67
What we learned at Jenkins
  • Focus on what isnt there subject headings that
    your catalog will index
  • Dont worry about the extraneous data
