  • Born on Oct. 20th of 1873
  • Often called Windy Nell, Calamity Nell, The
    Hyena in Petticoats and Holy Terrror
  • Motto- never retract, never explained, never
    apologize-get this thing done and let them howl
  • Became known as the Holy Terror because of
    motto
  • part of the Famous Five
  • Included Henritta Muir Edwards, Louise McKinney,
    Irene Palby and Emily Murphy
  • Died in Victoria, British Columbia on Sep. 1 of
    1951

  • Letitia McCurdy Mooney is her mother
  • John Mooney is her father
  • Family moved to Manitoba to find better farmland
  • Siblings are Will, George, Jack, Elizibeth, and

  • Led the compaign to give women the right to vote
    on Jan of 1914
  • Convinced government that women should be allowed
    to vote
  • Women in Manitoba were first to vote in Canada
  • Oct. 29 of 1929 council ruled that the word
    persons now reffered to both men and women
  • Invloved in social reform and Womens Christian
    Temperance Union
  • Had to do with social and health problems caused
    by alcohol

  • First novel is Sowing Seeds In Danny
  • Sold over 100 000 copies
  • Wrote hundreds of short stories, articles and
    columns
  • Wrote articles in many Canadian and American
    magazines

  • Started teaching at age sixteen
  • Gave up teaching career when married to Robert

    seemed important and I wanted to learn more
    information about her
  • Learned her personal life, family life, education
    and career
  • Most important thing learned was she helped women
    have a right to vote
  • Impact that she made was helped women all over
    Canada have a right to vote
