• Why were Northerners more likely to be Federalist
  and opposed to war w/ England?

• Focus was on attacking Canada

• Restore Nations Honor
• 2. Expand size of U.S.
• 3. Damage Englands Economy
• 4. Reduce British Influence of Natives

The Hartford Convention

• Unaware that peace was near, Federalists met in
  Hartford
• Were seeking changes to the Constitution that
  would make it harder to declare war and restrict
  commerce
• Some members even spoke of seceding from the
  Union
• Once peace was achieved, the Federalists seemed
  disloyal and this hastened their decline.
