Programme Aim
  • To articulate the nursing contribution to health
    and social care with particular reference to
    nursing decision making at individual,
    interpersonal and organisational levels.

Programme Objectives
  • Develop and validate NMDS
  • Analyse patient problems, nursing interventions
    and patient outcomes through NMDS in general and
    mental health nursing
  • Examine how interpersonal and organisational
    factors contribute to nursing decision making
  • Analyse strategies used by nurses to make
    decisions
  • Identify how effective decision-making can be
    promoted within an organisational context

  • 6. Examine best practice and patient outcomes in
    a field setting
  • 7. Analyse how nursing decision making impacts on
    the nursing contribution to care and health and
    social gain
  • 8. Integrate findings into a research-based
    practice development framework to inform and
    advise on the use of the nursing resource.

  • Ethical approval and access negotiated on all
    sites
  • Focus group and documentry data gathering
    commenced.
  • 2 posters presented at ACENDIO, April 2003 2
    abstracts accepted for the TCD Research
    conference Nov 03.
  • Literature review on NMDS commenced.
