  • Used by an institute to announce its interest in
building or enhancing a research program in a
    particular area
  • Highlights interest in a specific area of
    research
  • Typically an ongoing solicitation, accepting
grant applications for multiple receipt dates for

  • May get special consideration if close to payline
  • Reviewed by regular study sections

14
Request for Applications (RFA)
  • Solicitations for grant applications addressing
  • a) a defined research topic of public health
    importance
  • b) representing scientific opportunities
  • c) research area in need of increased emphasis
  • Funds set-aside for responsive applications that
    are meritorious
  • Usually, a one-time solicitation
  • Reviewed by a specially convened peer review
    panel

Cooperative Reproductive Science Research Centers
at Minority Institutions
  • Morehouse School of Medicine Research projects
at this Center integrate approaches at the
molecular, cellular and organ levels to elucidate
    physiological mechanisms that govern sexual
    development, follicular maturation, luteolysis
and spermatogenesis. PI David Mann, Ph.D.
Collaborator Tony Plant, Ph.D., Univ. of Pitts.
  • Meharry Medical College Research studies at this
Center examine the effect of OCPs on leiomyoma
growth, whether metformin vs. placebo combined
    with lifestyle interventions improve reproductive
markers in adolescent and adult women with PCOS,
and the impact of racial differences on sex
steroids and their correlation with bone density
and architecture. PI PonJola Coney, M.D.
Collaborator Richard Legro, M.D., Penn. State
    Univ.
  • Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and
Science Therapeutic applications of androgens in
normal women, women with hypopituitarism, and
