Where They Lived
  • The people of the coast lived on the coast. (duh)
  • The section of the coast where they lived
    stretched from Northern California to Alaska.

Climate
  • Their climate was marine.
  • Marine is wet and mild.
  • The reason it was so wet was because of the sea
    breezes, which blew the clouds over the land and
    made it rain.

Vegetation
  • The most dominant type of trees were the
    evergreens.
  • Cedar was the most important.
  • It provided clothes, shoes canoes, and much more!

Houses
  • The coastal people lived in huge houses made out
    of wooden planks. These were called long houses.
  • There was usually a fire in the center to keep
    the house warm and cooking.
  • An opening was at the top so that air could get
    out.

Transportation
  • They used their legs. What else could they use?
  • If youre thinking of horses, thats the plateau
    people.
  • They used canoes made out of cedar to travel over
    the water.

Natural resources
  • Water was used for drinking.
  • Animal hides were used to make clothing

  • Salmon was an important part of their diet.
  • It could be dried or smoked for later use.
  • Some other foods were Shellfish, Deer, muscles,
    and berries.
