Title: Imagine your group with a stronger ability to organize as a cohesive unit and implement appropriate

1
  • Imagine your group with a stronger ability to
organize as a cohesive unit and implement
    appropriate problem solving processes.

Imagine your group members practicing how to
challenge themselves in different environments.
Imagine your organizational challenges addressed
with a qualified staff that will facilitate the
identification and overcoming of issues such as
cliques, group conflicts, or diversity issues.
Imagine all of this taking place in the
breathtaking beauty of the Northwoods of
Wisconsin. Individual and group growth will occur
in natures classroom of outdoor challenge
courses and surrounding trails, lakes and rivers.

How will my group become stronger at Camp
Manitowish?
Since 1919, a philosophy of leadership has
developed at Camp Manitowish which over the
years we identified as COLLABORATIVE
LEADERSHIP. The qualities of a collaborative
leader were the lessons and skills learned at
Manitowish which participants were applying to
their success at school, at home, in their
communities and in professional life. When your
group participates in a Manitowish Leadership
Program, we will introduce the qualities of
collaborative leadership and teach you how to
apply them in ways that will benefit not only
your group as a whole, but individual members as
well.

6
  • To begin the process, we will work to enhance
    personal awareness and identify
  • Personal and group STRENGTHS.
  • Personal and group CHALLENGES.
  • Group INTERACTION and conflicting styles.
  • We will then progress to the tactics, which when
applied to working with diverse groups of people,
result in accomplishing tasks with effectiveness
    and success.

7
  • The whole is greater than the sum of the parts
  • When a group lets members amplify their
abilities, great things happen. To do this we
will teach your group how to
  • Focus on the process rather than the
    personalities.
  • Be inclusive.
  • Focus on a shared vision.
  • Create a unit where there is a flow of leaders
    and followers that is shifting
    and changing.

8
  • While your group is at Camp Manitowish all
members grow because they focus on the following
    throughout the entire experience
  • Practicing stepping out of the known and into
    the unknown.
  • Practicing pushing personal boundaries and
    comfort zones.
  • Enhancing personal awareness of group diversity.

9
So, what does our time at Manitowish look like?
By the time you arrive at Manito-wish we will
have already worked together with your staff and
leaders to identify the goals and desired
outcomes of your experience.
INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES Well get started by
introducing ourselves and having fun with name
games and ice breaker activities.
10
  • STAGE SETTING ACTIVITIES
  • Now it is time to get to work on the goals and
outcomes of the experience. In this phase of your
    program the following takes place
  • The group completes an inventory of group
    interaction and leadership styles.
  • The group is challenged by awareness puzzles.
  • The group participates in trust activities. These
are key as we move into larger challenges and
deeper understanding of group process and
personal roles in the success of the group.

11
PROBLEM SOLVING
The next phase in your experience is problem
solving. The group will ideally move through
three levels.
12
1
PROBLEM SOLVING
Level One In level one, the lessons from the
stage setting phase of the program are
revisited and applied to a group activity.
13
2
PROBLEM SOLVING
Level Two In level two, the concepts of
brainstorming sequences and action planning
are introduced. This phase usually involves time
on the Low Challenge Course and time to apply
action plans to various group challenge tasks.
14
3
PROBLEM SOLVING
Level Three Level three will give your group the
opportunity to really go into action when they
set out to work on large outdoor challenges that
may incorporate activities such as fire building,
outdoor shelter building, High Challenge Course
elements, or even a wilderness trip. We will
customize activities to meet your goals, desired
outcome and budget.
15
TRANSFER GRADUATION
As your experience at Manitowish begins to wrap
up, we will spend additional time on a higher
level challenge. During this time the will be
aware of the progress made and how they are
applying the skills learned to achieve a
goal. Because an important part of collaborative
leadership involves celebrating success, we will
close with a graduation ceremony. This event is
key in solidifying a commitment by the group to
transferring the experience from the Manitowish
environment to their environments in their
community.
16
FINAL TRANSFER
Before you leave the Northwoods, we will work
with you to develop an action plan which guides
your group in continued collaborative leadership
growth. Real growth comes from long- term work,
not just the time invested at Camp Manitowish.
  • Manito-wish was one of the best experiences
Ive had during my twelve years of school. It
opened my eyes in many ways and taught me certain
truths about people that I was not expecting to
understand yet. It was also some of the most
beautiful scenery that I have ever been exposed
to. If I have any regrets its that I cant go
again because this is my last year of high
school, but I couldnt be happier that I went
    when I did.

What if members of our group are not comfortable
with all of the activities?
All group members have a choice of challenges. At
Manitowish we work to instill that to grow, one
must reach outside of his or her comfort zone.
Not everyone has to reach the same distance.
Although we encourage full participation, there
are many ways to be an active member of the group.
