4Outline
- Bachelor level engineering programs in Sweden
- Time table
- Programs converting to CDIO
- Old project courses
- Outline of the three programs
- Design-build-test courses
- Approval for ideas
5Bachelor level engineering in Sweden
- 4400 students per year enroll
- 24 universities and collages
- Since 1998 50 decrease in applications
- Aim To apply and later develop engineering
technology - Mathematics, technical subjects, natural science,
computer science, non-technical subjects
6Time table
- In May 2004 start of planning
- In August 2004 decision by LiTHs board
- Reference group with staff, students and local
industry - Group to develop design-build-test course
- August 2005 restart of programs with CDIO
- June 2008 the first student graduate
7Programs converting to CDIO
- We are good at solving equations but when it
comes to projects and initiatives we have things
to learn Swedish mining engineer and former
master student in US. - Electrical Systems Engineering (ES)
- Media and Communication Technology (MK)
- Logistics Engineering (TL) new
8Old project courses
- No strategy for project courses in the curriculum
- No increase in demand on how the students perform
their projects - The demands on the students differed between
courses and programs - No strategy for personal and interpersonal skills
9Curriculum for the programs
- Many common courses
- Mathematics, computer science
- Three design-build-test courses
- Cooperation with the long programs where its
suitable
10Approval for CDIO among staff
- Presentation of CDIO ideas for the head of the
department and directors of studies - Seminar to introduce CDIO for the staff
- Information on learning outcomes and learning
goals - Course on LIPS project model
11Course plans with learning outcomes
- All courses for the first semester done
- In November 2005 decision of new course plans for
2006
12First design-build-test course
- Engineering project 20 percent of first semester
- Project work
- 6 members per project group
- Presentation of the result report and seminar
- Other parts
- Written and oral communication
- Group processes
- LIPS project model
- Working as an enginner
- Alumni
13Project ideas
- Optimization of transport routes
- Video production
- Alarm System
14Future work
- Two more design-build-test courses in year 2 and
3 - Mixed project groups
- Third project in cooperation with local industry
- Evaluation of each semester according to program
goals
