1. International recommendations and standards
  • CES Recommendations for the 2010 Censuses of
    population and housing
  • Focus on the usual residence
  • Identify a set of core topics (four)
  • Define all population groups relevant to
    international migration

  • Use of immigration data of receiving countries to
    improve emigration data of sending countries
  • Lessons learnt
  • Exchange of data is very beneficial to all
    involved countries to identify strengths and
    weaknesses of existing data
  • Importance of using population-based sources
    (census and household sample surveys).

  • UNECE-Eurostat work sessions on int. migration
  • Organize dedicated workshops (2006, in
    collaboration with UNFPA)
  • Report on emigration module for censuses with
    good practices (first draft)
