Proposed Issue
  • What if your client decides to sell the speech
annotation product under several different market
    and billing models?
  • How will interoperability and differential
    pricing issues affect your design?

???
3
Different Market and Billing Models
4
Design Impact
  • Impact for Requirements Development Phase
  • Need to research each target users workflow to
tailor our product for their needs
  • We might want to have customized enterprise
edition which has almost no interoperability
between other models -gt Lock In
  • Impact for Architecture Design Phase
  • To have interoperability between different OS, we
should develop middleware to absorb OS difference
  • Different pricing models might have different
    data structure
  • To save development cost, we would like to have
the core product essentially the same
  • License Key strategy allows us to develop only
    one product
  • for differential pricing models

5
Option Issue
  • Perform one round of a QFD analysis for following
    problem
  • KEI team is specifying the software configuration
(i.e. customized enterprise edition) for company
    X engineers.
  • KEI QFD team is selecting the standard
configuration for future KEI product development.

6
Requirements
  • An interdisciplinary meeting of stakeholders has
    identified
  • the following requirements
  • Reduce companyX effort
  • Reliable with respect to product (life)
  • Interoperability (OS/IDE)
  • Data consistency with company's standard (e.g.,
following comment rule, style guide, company
    standard dictionary)
  • Reduce speech noise

7
Realization Mechanisms
  • Bi-directional requirements tracking (e.g.,
    code-req.doc)
  • Dictation into company standard documents (e.g.,
    requirements doc. Architecture design doc.)
  • Effort measurement (e.g., recording time, editing
    time)
  • Customized data dictionary (10000 words)
  • Customized data dictionary (50000 words)
  • Support Win and Mac
  • Support Eclipse and J-builder
  • 1 year Warranty and free update
  • 3 years Warranty and free update
  • Directional microphone
  • Wireless headset

Some Considerations
  • Adding bi-directional requirements track and
dictation into company standard documents are the
most desired mechanism, while directional and
normal microphone are the last desired.
  • However, organization difficulty indicates first
two are most difficult from the design point of
view, and last two are the easiest.
  • For investigation, we need further discussion
with our business consultant (MBA Hisashi?)

Cost-benefit Analysis
  • The speech recognition market was 130 million in
    2002
  • Speech annotation product might reach 1 market
    share after 3 years
  • Our client should pay 10 royalty for CMU
  • The profit for each product might be 10
  • 5 interest rate
