  • The present health care system is not optimally
    designed to deliver preventive services on a
    massive scale.
  • Barriers to the utilization of preventive
    services include (but are not limited to)

  • Lack of convenience
  • Insufficient incentives for both providers and
    consumers
  • Insufficient reimbursement levels

Two Interrelated Focal Points
  • Major initiative to better define new delivery
    models for preventive care
  • Joint development of co-branded consumer-oriented
    tools and materials designed to help raise
    awareness and utilization of preventive services

Current PHP Activities
  • Archimedes studies and joint scientific
    publications on clinical preventive services.
  • Periodic Health Encounter.
  • Development of a screening tool to help consumers
    identify age-appropriate screenings that could be
    used in a clinical setting.
  • Exploring new models for increasing awareness and
    utilization of basic preventive services
    especially among vulnerable populations.
