NOKIA Connecting People
- Mid Term Presentation II
  • Presented by LEE Sung Hwan
  • Due Date 2003/11/19

2
Introduction
  • Issues to think about
  • Large-scale production
  • Reliability engineering
  • Nokia and its technology
  • Nokia in Korea
  • Ref http//www.nokia.com , http//www.nokia.co.kr

3
Issue Large-scale production
  • Facts
  • At the end of 2002, Nokia had 17 production
facilities in 9 countries around the world.
  • RD centers in 14 countries at the end of 2002.
  • To think
  • How does it work?
  • Cost
  • Function
  • Design
  • This issue may be compared and studied with
another large-scale production company such as
    Boeing or Intel.

4
Motivation
  • At first, I was rather on the reliability
engineering but then I changed my mind and
    focused on the large-scale production.
  • NOKIA is a huge company that runs more than 10
production factories around the world. To
understand a company, it is imperative to focus
on how this production line works.
  • During my search on it, I will have to compare
some numbers with the Boeing airplane
production line or the Intel Processor one. I
think it will be interesting to compare these
    companies.

5
Problems
  • Because the production line is so huge, there can
be major problems that may completely demolish
    the production.
  • Problem of Cost
  • We are talking about billions of dollars. If a
new cell phone that costs 100 has a problem,
    then NOKIA loses A LOT.
  • Problem of Selling
  • Consider that NOKIA created a new model of cell
phone. Imagine it includes the highest technology
and design. Today, NOKIA is the best in its
category but will it be the same in the future?
What if those new cell phones fail? It could also
mean the end of NOKIAs dynasty.
