Delran High Schools Community Service Program
  • Ask not what your country can do for you - ask
what you can do for your country.John F. Kennedy

2
Format
  • Placed within US History II Classes
  • Students are required a minimum of 15 hours
    service
  • Pre-Approval from teachers
  • Reflective paper or assignment when completed
  • Graded as satisfactory or unsatisfactory
  • Not a part of the students numerical grade
  • Students MUST satisfy requirement to pass US
    History II

3
Format
  • We decided to provide several on-site
opportunities for our students to satisfy their
    service requirement
  • This on-site format provides a safe environment
where a large number of students can engage in an
    activity
  • Students can also travel to participate in other
    organizations with parental consent

4
Communication
  • We created a Community Service Committee
    comprised of students, parents, administration,
    and teachers.
  • The Committee will help connect the service
    opportunities to our student body.

Students Reflection
  • The Assignment Students will draw from their
community service experience to complete a
project by April 30th, 2007. The individual US
History II teachers have the discretion to
approve or deny other reflection projects in
place of the two page reflective paper.

Community Service vs. Service Learning
  • We decided to stay with Community Service rather
    than the Service Learning Model.
  • Our District Goal- enable students of the Delran
School District the opportunity to foster a
deeper sense of social and civic responsibility.
