Verb (V)
  • The verb is perhaps the most important part of
    the sentence.
  • A verb tells you what the subject of the sentence
    is doing.
  • Ex Young Adam bites his juicy red apple.
  • Ask yourself what is happening. What words tells
    us what Adam is doing?
  • Young Adam bites his juicy red apple

Noun (N)
  • A noun is a word used to name a person, animal,
    place, or thing.
  • Ex Young Adam bites his juicy red apple.
  • Ask yourself what objects/people can I physically
    touch? Can I touch Bites? Or can I touch Apple
    and Adam?
  • Young Adam bites his juicy red apple.

Two Types of Nouns
  • Proper Noun
  • always write with a capital letter because it
    represents the name of a specific person, place,
    or thing.
  • Ex) Sparky the dog, Price Chopper, Bobby
  • Common Noun
  • refers to a person, place, or thing in a general
    sense
  • Ex) mall, store, cat, dog, brother
  • Only use capitol letters if it begin a sentence

Adjectives (A)
  • A word that describes a nouns.
  • Numbers, colors, shape, texture, time, quality
  • Ex Young Adam bites his juicy red apple.
  • What describes Adam or the apple?
  • Young Adam bites his juicy red apple.

Possessive Adjective
  • When put before a noun it is a descriptive word.
  • Ex my book.
  • It describes whose book it is.
  • Your, his, her, our, their
