  • Life Science, Earth/Space Science, and Physical
    Science or Comprehensive Science series
  • High School Graduation Requirements

  • 3 years of science 2 must have lab component
  • Any combination of science courses or Integrated
    Science Series

What Changes are Expected?
  • State Legislature is working to increase
    graduation requirements for Science

Current Science Assessment Requirements
  • Science assessment once in each grade band is a
    requirement of the NCLB Act
  • Florida students are assessed in Science by the
    FCAT at grades 5, 8, and 11
  • FCAT Science proficiency is not a state
    graduation or promotion requirement

  • State Legislature is considering changes to
    science assessment requirements
  • Phase out the Grade 11 FCAT Science assessment
  • Implement High School End-of-Course Exams,
    beginning with Biology I
