Agenda
  • Introductions
  • Review why we are here
  • Brief history of the Company and its solution
  • Discuss the challenges for Harrison County
  • SSI Process and Solution
  • Share some results of SSI solution
  • Recommended next steps

3
Why are we here?
  • Determine how we can cost effectively add
capacity to Harrison Countys Sewage Treatment
    Facilities
  • Discuss how much we can help Harrison County
    reduce its sludge removal expenses
  • Discuss how much we can reduce Harrison Countys
    utility bills
  • Discuss how we can significantly reduce odors
  • Discuss the economic impact if we can help
    Harrison County realize these goals

4
History of Sludge Solutions International
  • Providing waste treatment solutions for over 16
    years
  • Developed a Patented Biological Solution called
Sewper Rx for water based waste reduction
  • Sewper Rx solution is a proprietary blend of
bacterial strains, yeast strains and select
    nutrients rapidly and comprehensively degrades
    organic matter
  • Sewper Rx is used in 100 waste treatment plants
and many other waste treatment applications

5
Whats in Sewper Rx
  • The primary ingredients of SLUDGE TECHNOLOGIES
    proprietary blend are
  • Bacillus (A common bacteria)
  • Nitrogen
  • Phosphorus
  • Iron
  • Boron
  • Manganese
  • Zinc
  • Molybdenum
  • Copper
  • And optionally water

6
Harrison Countys Waste Treatment Issues
Description
Issues
When organic matter in the influent exceeds the
rate at which biological processes can degrade
it, sludge builds up. This bio-mass accumulation
negatively impacts BOD, TSS, and Odor and
eventually must be manually removed from the
treatment plant . Effectively managing sludge is
critical to optimizing a plants operations.
Sludge Buildup
Offensive Odor
This is one of the most contentious issues facing
wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) and is
principally caused by an ineffective aerobic
process inadequate aeration and other system
imbalances, such as harsh chemicals and low
bacteria nutrient levels, are prime culprits.
High TSS
Since Total Suspended Solids (TSS) is the
particulate matter resisting separation from the
water mass and is present in all sewage, sludge
buildup contributes to high TSS readings. A
process which reduces sludge volumes and improves
settling characteristics will improve TSS levels.
Excessive BOD
Since Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) is the
measure of the amount of dissolved oxygen
required by organisms to decompose organic matter
in water, the amount of sludge contributes to the
BOD level. Reducing the amount of sludge lowers
BOD.
7
Traditionally Obstacles to solve these Issues
Complicating factors continuously challenge
system operators, making it more difficult to
successfully solve everyday problems.
Complications
  • Budgets Reduce flexibility and limit
performance improvement options that can be
    considered
  • Regulations Increase the potential for fines for
    non-compliance and monopolize much of
managements time, forcing them into choosing the
    quickest, NOT the best solution
  • Alternatives Most solutions are expensive and do
NOT entirely solve the problem, leading to
    increased RISK
  • Capacity Lack of it further impacts the budget
    and leads to system inefficiencies
  • Productivity Impacts other areas, often forcing
management to focus on the urgent issues, and NOT
    the high-value solutions

Strict Environmental Regulations

SSI Process and Solution
  • Confirm actual daily flow vs. plant design
    capacity
  • Capture historical data on
  • Sludge Disposal
  • Method(s)
  • Frequency
  • Tonnage
  • Cost
  • Dissolved Oxygen (DO)
  • BOD and pH levels
  • TSS and VSS data where treatment will take place
  • Identify the point where the WWTP will be
    inoculated, i.e. aeration basin, biological
    reactor, digester, etc.
  • Develop inoculation plan
  • Treat the WWTP with the required amount of
    Sewper Rx
  • Based upon baseline stats
  • Previous field experience in similar plant design
  • Any unique conditions
  • SSI provides training support
  • WWTP continuously monitors performance of key
    indicators
  • Sludge levels and odor
  • Wasting statistics
  • DO, BOD, TSS/VSS and pH levels
  • Communicate results to SSI
  • Re-inoculate (when necessary)

Potential Benefits of SSI Solution for Harrison
County
The SSI solution provides numerous benefits.
Cost Savings
Compliance
Public Reaction
  • 70 or more reduction in organic solids
  • Sludge reduction produces immediate and dramatic
financial benefits because it reduces, or
    eliminates, the need for
  • Sludge handling treatment
  • Sludge storage
  • Sludge transfer or removal
  • Sludge disposal including hauling and landfill
    costs
  • Additional cost savings are realized by
  • Reduced electricity consumption
  • Lower equipment utilization, i.e. pumps,
    aerators, belt presses, etc.
  • Reduced polymer usage
  • Improved effluent quality
  • Increased system capacity
  • Up to a 80 reduction in BOD and TSS levels
  • Elimination of fines due to better compliance
    with State and Federal regulations
  • Improves plant treatment processes helping to
    ensure compliance
  • More efficient manpower usage so management can
focus on high-value objectives, instead of the
    crisis of the day
  • Environmental benefits are a by-product of
    compliance
  • Reduces or eliminates odors
  • Helps ensure better community and public support
because the WWTP will no longer be bombarded with
complaints and/or legal proceedings about the
offensive odor in the neighborhoods backyard
  • Reduces the effort management must expend to
    justify its actions and plans
  • The public responds favorably to actions that
    benefit the environment, particularly
    cost-effective ones

  • 70 or more reduction in organic solids and
    relationship to capacity
  • Significant reduction in or complete elimination
    of odors
  • Dramatic improvement in BOD and TSS levels

19
Optimal Conditions for the POC
  • Basic Requirements
  • Plant in good working order
  • 1 ppm Dissolved Oxygen in Aeration Chambers and
    Digesters
  • PH between 6.0 and 9.0
  • Ability to decant digesters and return
    supernatant aeration thus continualluy
    reseeding the plant
  • Accurate historical performance costs
