You probably know that you should change your AC
filter on a regular basis, but what you might
not be aware of is exactly how often that
frequency can vary. Here is what you need to

you replace the AC filter. Every three weeks is
good if you have multiple pets, or live in a
very dusty or polluted area or have severe

Remove Old Filter
Just simply slide it out of the slot that holds
it in place

Check Condition
Once you have taken out the AC filter, check its
condition. Does it look clogged? If you hold it
up to the light, you probably cannot see much
light. This AC xfilter needs to be replaced or
cleaned up, depending on its type. Even if it
has been in use less than the time recommended,
replace it anyway. Many factors can impact how
fast your AC filters get clogged.

Clean Filter or Buy New One

• Are you using a disposable or reusable filter? A
  disposable one typically has a cardboard frame
  and a paper or fiber mesh surface. On the other
  hand, reusable filter is made of sturdy material
  with a metal frame and a special coating. If you
  are cleaning a reusable one, check the
  manufacturers instructions for washing it. You
  will probably just need to rinse with water and
  let it dry.

Insert New or Cleaned Filte
Now you need to put the filter back in the right
way. An arrow on the frame shows you the
direction where air should flow through the
filter, which is away from the return air duct
and towards the air handler mechanism. When you
insert the filter back, make sure that arrow
points away from the return and toward the air
handler.
