Title: Should You Opt for High Pressure, High Temperature Treated Diamonds

1
Should You Opt for High Pressure, High
Temperature Treated Diamonds? Treated stones do
not necessarily equate to damaged or faulty
stones. Most of the time treatments are done to
increase the aesthetic appeal for customers and
also to minimize inclusions or change color of
the stone.
There are various treatments available for
diamonds, such as surface coating, irradiation,
and High Pressure, High-Temperature treatments
(HPHT) HPHT is the one which is usually used
most commonly for diamond jewelry in
Buffalo. Diamonds that have been surface coated
or irradiated, pose the risk of the oxide film
damage and lighting of the color after
irradiation due to high temperatures. These types
of treatments do not allow the stone to be recut
or polished without damaging the surface coating
or changing the color of the stone after
irradiations. High Pressure, High-Temperature
treatments (HPHT) HPHT is when the stones are
undergoing high pressure and high temperature in
a confined environment, similar to the
conditions under which it was formed. Diamond
frequently goes through this treatment to remove
visible inclusions in the stones and also to
change the color of the brown stone to
colorless, making them more appealing and
expensive to sell to potential customers for
diamond engagement rings in Buffalo. Common
changes that are visible after this treatment
mean that brown diamond changes to a yellow one,
an orange-yellow diamond will become more
yellow-green. The treatments technically change
and lighten the color. This is the only treatment
for gemstones that permanently changes the stone
color and requires no special handling for care
and therefore, is a good option for custom
engagement rings in Buffalo.
2
Buying a treated stone does not make it lower its
value. Diamonds undergoing HPHT are the most
resilient and should be chosen for their
affordability when compared to the colorless
mined variety.
