What Reasons Lead to a Bad Drive Belt in Your BMW

Description:

The drive belt is responsible for the overall functioning of the engine. You need to timely inspect the belt as it might get damaged because of the extreme heat, presence of foreign particle, misalignment and presence of oil and grease. Title: What Reasons Lead to a Bad Drive Belt in Your BMW

1
What Reasons Lead to a Bad Drive Belt in Your
BMW
2
The engine of your BMW greatly depends on the
proper functioning of the drive belt.
3
The drive belt is responsible for coordinating a
number of spinning pulleys in the engine.
4
When the drive belt starts to malfunction, then
there will be also power issues in other parts
which include alternator, water pump and power
steering pump.
5
If your BMW is dealing with a bad drive belt,
then a possible reason may be one of the
following.
6
Extreme Heat
7
The drive belt is exposed to high temperatures
and the stress of bending around the pulleys
leads to cracking.
8
The rubber used to manufacture this belt is
designed to resist extreme heat, but eventually
the belt dry out and begin to crack.
9
Foreign Particle
10
Any foreign particle such as a pebble in the
pulley will cause uneven wear and can cut into
the belt and break the tensile cords.
11
This problem mainly occurs in the cars which do
not have a proper engine protection shield and
the belt gets uneven rib wear.
12
Misalignment
13
Misalignment occurs in the case of a new belt on
worn pulley and lack of tension in the system.
14
It leads to piling which makes the belt material
wear off from the ribs and builds up in the belt
grooves.
15
Grease
16
The oil and grease are the worst enemies of a
rubber belt as they weaken the compound's bonds
and makes the belt soft and spongy.
17
This can be irritating to the point of having to
replace the belt because its not always easy to
clean off antifreeze once its embedded in the
belt itself.
18
Noticeable signs to detect a bad belt
19
An easy way to determine when your belt needs to
be replaced is an annual visual inspection that
checks for cracks, wear and fraying.
20
A squealing sound from your BMW indicates that
the belt is slipping as the belt isnt gripping
the pulleys as tightly as it needs to.
21
Look for any dips in alternator output such as
dimming lights or a warning light of charge on
the dashboard.
22
In order to avoid any problems due to the drive
belt, make sure to check them annually and
replace at an authorized BMW service center.
