5 Nasal Allergy Symptoms You Should Not Ignore
2
  • Allergic rhinitis or nasal allergy is an
inflammatory reaction to animal hair, pollens,
house dust mites, mold and pollution. Often
mistaken as common cold due to similar symptoms,
it causes sneezing and nasal congestion. There is
no permanent treatment for allergies but you can
find relief for your allergy symptoms. If not
treated in time they can get worse overtime.
  • Here are 5 nasal allergy symptoms that you should
    not ignore

3
1. Sneezing
  • Sneezing occurs when an allergen enters the nasal
cavity and releases histamine. It can really be
bothersome and interferes with your daily life.
If the sneezing is caused due to an infection you
must cover your mouth to avoid spreading the
pathogens. If there is severe sneezing you must
consult a doctor or try over-the-counter medicine.

2. Itchy/watery eyes
  • Watery/itchy eyes is also a symptom connected to
nasal allergy and occurs as a result of release
of histamine. They cause redness and swelling of
the eye. Although they can be bothering but eye
symptoms usually dont turn into some serious eye
or vision problem. If the symptoms are
uncontrollable and persist for a long time, you
    must seek medical help.

3. Runny/stuffy nose
  • Its a common symptom of nasal allergy and
usually the first one. You must find out whats
triggering the allergy and try to avoid the
triggers. If you cant find the allergy triggers,
seek an allergist who will help you identify it.

4. Sinus pressure
  • Sinuses are small cavities behind your cheeks,
forehead and eyes. If you feel pressure or pain
in these areas, it is due to mucus that has built
up in these areas because of allergy. Try
applying a warm and moist cloth over it or saline
nasal spray to get relief from the pain. If it
still persists, its time to see a doctor.

7
5. Postnasal drip
  • There is a thin mucus layer that lines the cavity
to moisten the tissues and trap harmful pathogens
and foreign bodies. Usually we swallow the mucus
without even knowing it, but when the mucus
becomes thick or if you have more mucus than
normal, its a sign of an allergy and it results
in post nasal drip. This is when you feel it
dripping down the back of your throat leading to
pain and irritation in the throat. Seek medical
help if you dont get relief within few days.

Although the best treatment for nasal allergy is
to avoid pollens and other allergens triggering
your symptoms. If your symptoms persist for more
than a week, you must seek medical help.
