Title: Plumbing Basics Every Homeowner Should Know

1
Plumbing Basics Every Homeowner Should Know
2
When some people hear the word plumbing, they
envision a complicated maze of pipes and fittings
that make their brains go blank. They want
nothing to do about it even though tubes and
pipes are practically all over their homes.
3
Theyd rather leave everything to experienced
plumbers from Quick Response Plumbing. Plumbing
is not as complicated as most people think. As
long as you learn the basics, youll have a good
understanding of how it works.
4
The plumbing system of your home is divided into
two subsystems. The first one is responsible for
bringing clean water in the other is for taking
wastewater out. That sounds simple enough, right?
Clean water in, dirty water out.
5
If youre wondering how your water consumption is
measured, heres the answer. The water that comes
into your home passes through a gauge that
measures the amount of water you use. So
everytime you turn a faucet on, water passes
through the meter and gets recorded.
6
Now, how does water passes through your pipes?
What induces it to flow? The water that runs
inside your plumbing system is under pressure.
Pressure is the force that pushes your water to
reach the different levels of your house.
7
Then there are the shut off valves. Every home
has a main shut off valve that stops the water
supply completely for the entire home. As a
homeowner, you should know where it is located.
Usually, its situated near the gauge that
measures your water consumption. Sounds easy
enough, right?
8
But would you believe not all homeowners know
where their main shut off valve is or that one
even exists? Its crucial that you know where
yours is in case a major leak happens. It could
be the only thing that can save your home from
accidental flooding and water damage.
9
Aside from the main shut off valve, there are
others that isolate the water supply in your
home. Toilets, sinks, bathtubs and other fixtures
often come with stop valves. So, just like your
main shut off valve, know where these stop valves
are located in case of a leak emergency.
10
These are just the basics of your homes plumbing
system. So, in a nutshell, there are two
subsystems that brings water in and out a gauge
measures your water consumption pressure is
responsible for moving water along your pipes
11
you have a main shut off valve that cuts the
water supply into your home completely and other
stop valves that usually come with water and
bathroom fixtures. But dont let these little
bit of knowledge fool you into thinking you can
handle plumbing emergencies.
