Interview results delayed or being postponed?
Things you should know
Attended an interview in gulf with any
organization? Read below
Confused, stressed and anxious as to why the
company is not letting you know the
interview results after that pretty good
interview you had with them? This blog is for
you. The time between an interview you thought
that went well and the results is undoubtedly a
stressful time. Here are some tips below which
would help you navigate through those troubled
times.
When to contact them post the interview If the
interviewers or recruiters havent told you of a
specific date within which they would come back
to you, follow-up with them via email after 5
business days. If you do not get a reply within
the next 3 business days, ring them up and check
for updates.
1)
2)
How many times to call them? Well, maximum 3
times. Do not call them beyond 3 times over the
phone and 3 times over email. Dedicate the
additional time you would want to chase them on
applying to other jobs
What to tell them when you look for a status
update?
3)
Be honest dont play games If you do not have
an offer in hand which you need to commit
immediately, do not pressurize them to give you
an update. This might back-fire. If you severely
pressurize them for an update stating you have
another offer, they might consider dropping you.
4)
Be Polite Be polite no matter how frustrating
your situation is at the moment. Keep the cool
and talk to them pleasantly.

5)
Dont assume you got the job
2
Even as you believe the interview went well, do
not assume you got the job. Be a candidate and
behave as a candidate in your conversation and
actions while you follow- up.
Dont leave desperate messages When the reply
is delaying, do not leave desperate messages over
the phone or email. This makes them feel you
are desperate for the job. If they decide to give
you an offer, they might recollect your behavior
and come to the conclusion that you would accept
even a lower pay package.
6)
What really is happening?
7)
They are evaluating other candidates If the
interview results are kept impending, chances
are that they are interviewing other candidates
for the same position.
8)
There are some internal changes happening in the
company Todays business environment is highly
dynamic and could change in matter of seconds.
At the time of interview, things would have been
all good to hire another candidate but since
your interview things might have changed within
the company. It could be budget issues, delay
in decision making by top management, temporary
freeze on recruitments, need to hire a
candidate in some other location, market
situations specific to that company, the
expected deal did not cut through, the existing
clients are delaying renewal of projects etc.
9)
Their deadline is not your deadline. They could
have a deadline to fill the position you were
interviewed for that could be 2 weeks or 2
months and they may be interested in evaluating
more candidates. In the meanwhile, you would
want to land on a job as early as possible. So
their deadline might not always be your deadline
and things could delay because of this.

What should you do?
10) Apply for other jobs
3
Keep applying for new jobs. Do not lose speed.
Develop the attitude that until you get an offer
letter in hand, you would continue to apply for
jobs and attend interviews. Alter your mentality
and attitude accordingly.
11) Attend other interviews Keep attending other
interviews.
12) Dont take it personal and lose heart If
interview results are being delayed, dont take
it personal into your heart and let it bring
down your morale. Keep up the spirit and move
forward!
Your takeaways - always learn something.
13) How they treat you is who they are When you
land in a job, you would have been interviewed
by few other firms, possibly your current
companys competitors and now you know a great
deal about them few managers, their culture,
their decision making ability, pace at which
things move, work atmosphere etc. How they
treated you and your whole interview process
reflects the nature of that company. Now you can
compare and decide against your current company
and where you stand!
