How it Works
  • Filament is shaped so that a weak point is
    created to draw the electrons off with an
    electromagnet.
  • The magnet is a doughnut shape pulling the
    electrons through the center with such force that
    it cant be pulled back.

How It Works II
  • The electron beam is kept in alignment through
    apertures (little holes that act as magnifiers).
  • They are directed to the sample, bounce off, and
    are picked up by the detector.

The Problem
  • Sometimes the Sample has to be mounted at an
    angle and that stretches the beam.
  • Sometimes you need to look at more than a simple
    surface.

The Solution
  • By making use of various configurations. And
    changing the image with programs like Photoshop,
    we can correct the distorted images or look at
    them in 3-D to gain depth perception.
