A Letter from the President
What happened to summer? I mean, it still feels
like its summer, but school is back in session
and most of us are putting the final touches to
next years budget. CTAM Texas had a great
summer with two tremendous events. We had a
great turnout in May for our VOD panel. For
those of you that attended the Summit in July,
you know that VOD and HDTV were the hot topics.
In fact, many of the track sessions were standing
room only just because the topic was VOD! In
June, CTAM Texas had a record setting Dru Strange
Golf Tournament with over 100 golfers helping to
raise an estimated 11,000. Our partnership
with WICT has helped raise over 85,000 during
the 10 years that the event has been in
existence. So, whats next? Well, competition
is starting to heat up for the first CTAM Texas
Chili Festival. We expect to have a dozen or
more teams of chili cooks testing their culinary
talents to win the coveted CTAM Copper Ladle
Award. Please plan to join us on October 11th
with Celebrity and Industry Judges like CTAM
President, Char Beales and Channel 8 weekend news
anchor, Chris Gailus as they help decide whos
really cooking. Your admission entitles you to
be a voting voice for our Peoples Choice Awards!
Grab your Tums and come on down.   And thats
just a little of what you have to look forward to
as the year rounds the corner and CTAM Texas gets
cooking.   - Victoria

Marketing Ps of SVOD VODMay 23, 2002

CTAM Texas Members   Lees introduction stated
that VOD and SVOD are breaking the time
barrier of television. For the first time, we
are offering consumers the opportunity to watch
what they want when they want. From PVR services
like TiVo, we already know that viewers watch
more TV in an on-demand environment, and they
watch different TV, since they are no longer a
slave to the schedule. We also know they dont
watch commercials, promos, network IDs or other
marketing messages.  We may be on the
forefront of the biggest behavioral shift in
media consumption ever making everything weve
introduced in the last 20 years of cable seem
like accessories.    Cable Operators and Premium
suppliers say that SVOD service will help with
obtaining higher levels of digital penetration.
By adding SVOD service as an option on cables
digital platform for customers who subscribe to
premium television, you have helped increase
customer viewership which improves their
satisfaction levels which ultimately reduces
churn. stated Julia Veale. According to
Showtime Networks, the preferred method of
positioning and pricing SVOD is as a category
versus single service for 6.00 per month.
Digi-nets such as Discovery are providing
Operators with products on an on-demand basis to
enhance digital offerings. Often this
enhancement is free to the customer FOD, as
part of the digital basic package of
services.  Although many believe that VODs
driving factor for success is having hit movies,
Mag Rack, a front runner in developing new
programs of special interest for VOD, believes
that having incremental product, not just
re-purposed product is the consumers reason for
coming back for more.
Panelists Mark Romano, Mag Rack Lee Hunt. Lee
Hunt LLC John Vartanian, IN DEMAND Clint
Stinchcomb, Discovery Communications, Julia
Veale, Showtime Networks and Susan McLaughlin,
Charter Communications.
Digital penetration levels for Operators is
projected to be in the low 40 by year-end 2004.
As digital penetration increases, depth and usage
of VOD will become more prevalent.
