3How Do I Live United?
- By understanding how much more we can accomplish
together than individually. - By uniting with family, friends and co-workers to
address and solve the needs in our community. - By making a commitment to your community to
change lives.
4Why United Way?
United Way brings together our community to
identify and address our local needs. 87 of
every 1 goes directly to programs in the Quad
Cities. You can have an impact on several issues
not just one. We have a strategic vision that
looks at the communitys short-term and long-term
needs. We meet immediate needs like shelter and
food while also working to address the root
causes of poverty. By uniting, we can make a
bigger difference and change more lives.
5How Does United Way Work?
- We address the communitys need in three ways
- United Way Funded Programs Donations are given
to local programs at health and human service
agencies that are meeting the communitys urgent
needs and achieving long-term, measureable
results. Allocations are done through a
volunteer-lead process every two years. - Birth-to-Work Agenda This agendas goal is to
make sure our local youth are successful in life
by preparing them to be Ready for School, Ready
to Graduate and Ready for Work. Donations are
given out to programs through a volunteer-lead
grant process. - Impact Work We run a variety of programs which
serve our community. They include a referral
service for those in need and free books for
children from birth to five years old (see the
next two pages for details).
6Our Impact Work
-
- 211 A free, confidential, information and
referral service in the Quad Cities. Information

moderate income families take full advantage of
tax credits, including Earned Income Tax Credit
and the Child Tax Credit. - Operation Read Volunteers visit six different
schools in the Quad Cities each week to read to
elementary school students and increase their

8Can I Really Have An Impact?
-
- Your donation will cause change
- For 5/pay period, your donation can provide
someone in need a free meal daily for over two
months. - For 10/pay period, your donation can provide
shelter for a victim of domestic violence for 4
nights. - For 20/pay period, your donation can provide
one free book monthly for 17 children between the
ages of 0-5 for one year. - Statistics based on a two-week pay cycle.
9Be The Difference
Global change starts with one person making a
difference in their community. Every donation
touches someones life here in the Quad Cities.
The person you help could be your neighbor,
coworker or friend.
10Together, lets take a stand and make the
commitment to transform our community.
