2What is Travelwise?
- Sustainable transport initiative which aims to
promote alternatives to the private car
particularly single occupancy car travel
associated with journeys to and from work. - Travelwise is a DRDNI Roads Service initiative
designed to support organisations in all sectors
promote sustainable travel options.
3What are the Aims of Travelwise?
- To make everyone think more about our use of the
car - To promote more sustainable ways of travelling,
particularly short distances - 25 of all journeys are less than 2 miles
- 58 of all journeys are less than 5 miles
4- To reduce environmental pollution emissions
Road Traffic is responsible for 70 of
transport related Co2 emissions - To encourage action to change travel behaviour
and over dependence on the car - To produce variable options for travel.

6Workplace Travel Plans
- A Workplace Travel Plan (WTP) is a package of
measures to support and promote sustainable
travel by reducing reliance on single occupancy
car travel. - This WTP must be tailored to the specific work
site and take account of the size and location of
the site/s, number of staff, visitors and
deliveries to the organisation.

- Reduces demand for staff car parking
- Contributes to reduction of traffic congestion
- Develops a healthier, fitter more productive
workforce - Reduces Environmental Pollution

work place - Will assist a significant shift from car to
public transport use

(Translink to match public transport journeys for

In Dublin, peak time traffic has increased by
over 40 in the last ten years Car ownership has
increased from 250,000 in 1989 to 600,000 in 2004
and is forecast to increase further to 2 million
by 2010 in the GDA Recognition by the DoT that,
despite investment in public transport through
Transport 21 car use will continue to increase
TDM measures. Mobility Management Plans or
Travel plans are an increasingly important tool
in the delivery of a modal shift DTO Dublin's
Travel Plan Guidelines to create a National
Policy on Travel Planning as part of development
control

to cycle - Winner of The Irish Times Living Dublin Award
2007, also taking first place in the Business in
the Community Category - Special merit Better Place to Work in the HSE
