Current situation
  • 21 CSN investment portfolios with identified CIF
    projects
  • Average 3 projects being assessed per week
  • Not all CIF projects coming from CSN plans are
    being encouraged we want to increase this to
    100
  • Re-submitting can be time consuming and
    duplicating effort.

Stage 1 On-line application made by
applicant

15 working days as to whether project is

application in conjunction with CSN, NGB,
other key partners and advice from SE officers

line with Award conditions. Project reports

Pre-application Are you ready?
  • Develop your idea into a concept, then into an
    outline project and test whether it is feasible
    can you evidence why its needed?
  • What will you need to run the project, including
    aims and objectives, demonstrable need,
    partnerships, resources (financial and other),
    timescale, revenue implications, outputs and
    outcomes
  • Check projects eligibility for support
  • Remember Sport England are a funder of last
    resort and only for projects that meet Sport
    England priorities.

Purpose
  • Whatever type of organisation you are, the
    constitution or memorandum and articles of
    association must
  • Permit the sporting activities proposed in your
    application
  • Give the necessary legal powers to own or lease
    facilities, employ staff and manage finances as
    appropriate to your application
  • Not impose unreasonable restrictions on public
    access to facilities.

What can you apply for?
  • Projects that help people get involved in sport
  • Will increase participation
  • Capital Revenue
  • Mixture of both
  • Must support the achievement of the Delivery
    System For Sport.

Revenue
  • Implementation of an activity, usually over a
    period of time
  • Incurs expenditure that does not create an asset.
  • Examples
  • Employment of a sports development worker
  • Recruitment of coaches and volunteers
  • Training and coaching awards for members
  • Small pools of equipment that form part of a
    larger project with a value of less than 1000.

Capital
  • Creates a lasting asset
  • Equipment with a value over 1000
  • Must meet Sport England design guidance standards
    as a minimum
  • Examples
  • Multiuse games area
  • Clubhouse or pavilion
  • Sports hall
  • Improvements to existing facilities for sport and
    physical activity participation

Capital Guidance
  • Contact the Planning Department of your Local
    Authority
  • Dont spend money on planning issues before you
    talk to Sport England
  • BUT planning permission will have to be in place
    before we enter into a funding agreement with
    you.
  • Seek professional help in developing capital
    projects
  • Sport Englands intention is to help you keep
    costs to a minimum
  • See Technical Design Notes section on the
    Pre-Application page.

What cant you apply for?
  • Stand-alone social facilities or projects
    concerned solely with social provision (e.g. a
    new kitchen or bar in a clubhouse)
  • Transport assets such as a mini-bus or van
  • Personal sports equipment or team kit
  • Projects that have already started
  • Supporting ongoing initiatives (MUST be new
    provision/resource)
  • General running costs, e.g. ongoing staff costs
    council tax gas, electricity or water bills
    facility hire
  • Items that only benefit an individual, e.g.
    prizes, scholarships, bursaries, personal
    clothing or equipment or the purchase of tickets
    for events.
  • Activities promoting religious beliefs
  • Endowments
  • Loan repayments
  • Foreign trips
  • Goods or services bought or ordered prior to an
    Award being confirmed
  • Equipment e.g. computers, printers, laptops and
    other IT equipment, telephones and fax machines
  • E-mail and internet access
  • General office and administrative service costs

How much?
  • Minimum investment 10,001
  • No upper limits
  • Capped
  • Must have some partnership funding
  • More than one region - apply to the region where
    the majority of those who will benefit from the
    project are based.
  • If project covers three or more regions, apply
    for a national project.

  • Log on to register and log-in to complete the
    form
  • Tick box at bottom of pre-application page to
    confirm youve considered SE advice
  • Can exit anytime and return using log-in details
  • Initial enquiry determines eligibility
    immediate feedback
  • If ineligible email received
  • If eligible complete the rest of the form and
    submit
  • Should get response within 15 days

  • Strict criteria on what SE will fund
  • Questions at the beginning of the form will
    trigger automatic failure to comply with SE
    funding requirements
  • If you answer one of these questions in a way
    that makes it impossible for SE to fund you
    will get an automatic ineligibility email
  • Ineligibility message will tell you about other
    potential sources of funding

  • Capital no security of tenure or will have by
    time project complete
  • Football selecting Association Football as only
    sport

  • Counts the number of members of the project/club
    or organisation who have taken part in sport or
    physical activity through the club/organisation
    in the last year,
  • Coaching
  • Counts the number of coaches, leaders,
    instructors or teachers involved in the project
    who have coached at least once in the past year

  • Counts the number of volunteers who have been
    actively involved in the project at least once in
    the past year with a role beyond playing or
    coaching.

Encourage/Discourage
  • If your organisation or project is not eligible -
    this is an almost immediate response.
  • If we are very sure that your application,
    although eligible, will not meet our priorities
    for funding and is very unlikely to receive
    support we will tell you after you have completed
    the Stage 1 Application. This advice may take up
    to 15 working days
  • If we believe there is a reasonable chance that
    your project will receive funding from Sport
    England then we will encourage you to proceed to
    the Stage 2 Application.
  • Proceeding to Stage 2 not a guarantee that we
    will support your project but an indication
    based on the information you gave us.
