Results I participated in two nutritional
modules a clinical module and a research module.
In the clinical module I reviewed and presented
a case on pancreatitis. In the research module I
conducted a randomized study on food consumption
of children. All the students in the program
stayed in a very accommodating hotel in
Miraflores. There were Peruvian students who
helped with translations and showed us around
the city when we were not in class.
Introduction I studied in Lima and Huaraz Peru in
June of 2006. My purpose was to enhance my
cultural awareness while utilizing my education
in dietetics.
- Objectives
- Enhance nutritional awareness
- Experience a different cultures view on
nutrition - Meet new people with same career interests
Materials and Methods I discovered the program
through meeting with Dean Bohn about a program
related to my major in dietetics. Then, I had to
write a letter of application along with two
references and transcripts to ISU. Also, you
need to be in junior level classes to
participate. To prepare I had to book my own
flight and verify my hotel accommodations, but
the rest was taken care of.
Discussion/Conclusion I recommend this program
for anyone studying nutrition. It provides a
hands on experience by working with people and
professionals within the community. I was
surprised by the amazing food and hospitality of
the Peruvian Culture. There is a lot to see, and
for a very cheap price.
