Istanbul is a historic destination, a
mega-metropolis that was founded around 1000 BC
FROM THE Byzantine Empire. The cobblestone
streets, the bustling markets, and the authentic
cuisines are all a good reflection of the past.
Istanbul is liberally sprinkled with a rich
illustration of its glorious empires-the Blue
Mosque, the Grand Bazar, Aya Sofya, Topkapi
Palace is surely a place that will spark your
interest especially for history lovers. It is a
city with modernity mix with tradition drawing
its inspiration from both European and Asian
countries.

Hagia Sophia was constructed around 537 AD and
initially served as a Greek Orthodox cathedral
and later on converted into a mosque and museum
by an Ottoman Imperial. In February 1935 it was
opened to the public as a museum and it remained
as the largest cathedral in the world for almost
a thousand years. Hagia Sophia is recognized for
its sophisticated style of architecture an
epitome of Byzantine architecture, the massive
dome structure making it one of the largest
buildings in the world. The interiors have been
furnished with great artistic value with marble
pillars and mosaic finely polished and manicured.
The columns of green Thessalian stone, the lodge
of the empress, the marble dome, the wishing
column, the blue jasper tea set, lustration urn
of Pergamon, the imperial gate and the art
gallery are some of the major attractions here.

Sultan Ahmed Mosque is a historical mosque that
was constructed around 1609 under the rule of
Ahmed I. Contemporarily it is one of the most
visited mosques in Istanbul and is celebrated for
being home to Ahmed's tomb, hospice, a madrasah,
its hand-painted tiles, the decorated walls and
the amazing sight of the dome as night is what
sets it apart. This mosque is home to five main
domes, eight secondary domes, and six minarets.
It was designed by an architect called Sedefkar
Mehmed Aga, the upper portion of the dorm
consists of 20,000 hand-painted ceramics, 60
distinct tulip patterns and illuminated with 200
stained glasses.

The Topkapi Palace The Topkapi Palace is a
museum that dates back to the 15th and 16th
centuries, located in the eastern region of Faith
District, Istanbul, Turkey. The palace initially
served as a residential area for the Ottoman
Sultans and is also known as New Palace. It was
constructed in 1459 and it is home to four
courtyards, an imperial treasury, a library, and
a mint. The Topkapi Palace has been listed in the
UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 and today it
has a massive collection of Ottoman miniatures,
religious relics, weapons, clothing, illuminated
manuscripts of the Ottoman Empire.
