1How to apply for your Initial Teaching

online with the State Board for Educator
Certification (SBEC). http//www.sbec.state.tx.us
2- Go to the SBEC website http//www.sbec.state.tx.u
s - Click on SBEC Online for Educators
3Create an account if you are a new user or login
if you already have an account.
Answer these questions first.
4- A series of questions will be asked,
- including your name, address, and email
- address. Once you have completed all of
- these questions and have created a username
- and password, you will be taken to the
- EDUCATOR MAIN MENU.
- From this menu, you will be able to apply for
- certification, check your status, view exam
- scores, and view a virtual certificate.
5This menu can be found on the left side of the
screen in the Main Menu
- From this menu, check your application status,
fingerprint status, apply for certification, view
your certificates, view examinations, and update
personal information.
6To apply, click on APPLICATIONS
- Choose Standard Certificate Texas Program
- To add an additional certification by exam after
becoming certified, click on Additional
Certification by Examination.
7The next screen will provide general information.
Click Here.
8The next screen will prompt completion of the
APPLICANTs AFFIDAVIT.
Your name will be inserted here automatically.
9Check YES to complete the affadavit.
10Answer the following Yes or No. If you have any
questions on how to answer, please call the SBEC
Hotline at 1-888-863-5880.
11When it asks for recommending entity, make sure
to choose TSU - UNIVERSITY BASED.If you
choose TSU-Alternative or TSU-Master Teacher, we
will not be able to make the recommendation.
12In the field designated Subject applying for,
type in your certification field(s). You may
abbreviate if all will not fit in box.
All-Level PE 8-12 Life Science
Make sure to click on Apply.
13All first time certificate applicants must submit
fingerprints.
Make sure this is marked.
Click here to continue.
14Based on the information provided, the state will
determine the fees owed.
Please click here to continue. You are almost
done!
15The final screen will show your status and allow
you to pay online. You must pay online. You can
do so with a credit card or with an electronic
check.
16At any time, you can access the Application
Status Screen by logging in to your SBEC account
and clicking on Application Status from the main
menu on the left side of the screen.
17When your application has been completed
correctly, you will receive an email from
sbec_at_sbec.state.tx.us with the subject
Application Submitted.

- submitted to Tarleton State University.

18In a few days, two fingerprint cards should
arrive in the mail. If you do not receive the
cards, you may need to contact SBEC to request
another set be sent to you. Most police stations
will roll prints for around 10. The Tarleton
Police station will roll prints for free by
calling 968-9002 and setting up an appointment.
19- The success rate with fingerprint cards has
- not been good. Here are some pointers
- Follow all instructions that come with the cards.
- Make sure that you are not wearing any
- lotion on your hands when you go to have
- your prints rolled.
- Ask if you can sign the cards before you are
fingerprinted to avoid smudging the prints. - Do not fold the card.
20Your degree must be posted and all tests must be
passed before Tarleton will recommend you.
When Tarleton has completed the recommendation,
you will receive an email from SBEC. If you
