Title: Whats the name of this process and what do you know about it

1
Whats the name of this process and what do you
know about it?
  • This is a historic opportunity to unite Europe
peacefully after generations of division and
    conflict.
  • This will extend the stability and prosperity to
a wider group of countries, consolidating the
political and economic transition that has taken
place in Central and Eastern Europe since 1989.
  • By enhancing the stability and security of these
countries, it can enjoy better chances for peace
and prosperity. After the terrorist attacks of 11
September 2001, a strong and united Europe is
more important than ever before to ensure peace,
    security and freedom.
  • The extension to include new members will put it
in a better position to take up the challenge of
globalization, and to strengthen and defend the
    European social model.
  • It will present significant economic
opportunities in the form of a larger market.
  • Which countries are currently involved in this
    process?

2
Whats the event and what do you know about this
ongoing and dynamic process?
  • On 29 March 2004, seven new countries formally
    joined it.
  • The event was celebrated with a special ceremony
hosted by United States President George W. Bush
    at the White House
  • There was a special flag-raising ceremony in
    Brussels on 2 April 2004.
  • its membership has grown from the 12 founders to
    todays 26 members

3
What do you know about the event?
  • The visit had three main highlights. Which are
    they?
  • What do you know about this person?

4
Whats the modern invention and what do you know
about it?
  • As technology speeds ahead, today's latest model
soon becomes old and unwanted. The way that
handsets are currently subsidised can make it
cheaper to buy a new one than to replace a
worn-out battery. They are becoming almost
    disposable.
  • The rapid pace of development has also meant that
some companies have grown frantically to keep up
with demand, producing more and better equipment
    using state-of-the-art production techniques. The
    old methods soon get forgotten.
  • Now they are coming with WAP (Mobile Internet),
GPRS, Media Messaging, SMS texting, built-in
cameras, organisers, mp3 players, java games, and
    built-in PC software.

Guess what the most controversial topic in the
field of science is!
  • This is a technology used to generate an animal
that has the same nuclear DNA as another
    currently or previously existing animal.
  • In a process called "somatic cell nuclear
    transfer" (SCNT), scientists transfer genetic
material from the nucleus of a donor adult cell
to an egg whose nucleus, and thus its genetic
material, has been removed. The reconstructed egg
containing the DNA from a donor cell must be
treated with chemicals or electric current in
    order to stimulate cell division.
  • How can these technologies be used?
  • What animals have been used in this technology?
  • What are the risks of this technology?
  • Conservative position This creates a new life
without a father, and reduces a mother to the
provider of an almost emptied egg. Nonetheless,
it is a new human life and the determination to
destroy it and limit its use to scientific
research for therapeutic ends compound further
the moral issues rather than protect mankind.
  • Liberal position This will in time allow
scientists to create organs that are a perfect
match for those in need of a transplant.
