Care of Equipment
  • Students must use care while using the equipment
  • Caution against breaking connectors, pins on
    cables, and so forth

Cabling and IP Addresses
  • Students must cable their own lab topologies
  • All cables should be returned to the cable rack
    at the end of class
  • Students may use any IP addressing scheme within
    the lab topology as long they do not connect to
    the college backbone
  • Since the labs will be isolated students in each
    group may use the same IP addresses

Console Cables
  • A console cable is a rollover cable
  • To configure a router or switch out-of-band,
    connect a console cable from the console port to
    an adapter attached to the COM port on a PC
  • Use Hyper Terminal, TeraTerm, or some other
    terminal emulation software
