The Importance of Inter-religious Dialogue
  • Ignorance breeds prejudice, bigotry and
    hostility.
  • Knowledge about others forms security and respect
    for one another.
  • People have a responsibility to their faith.
  • To be true to our faith, we must inform others
    and strive to obtain our values together.

The Hebrew Bible
  • Psalms 241-10
  • Discusses one of the laws of Noah which adheres
    to all religions.
  • Psalms 471-10
  • All religions believe in the one and same God.

The New Testament
  • Matt 28 16-20
  • Although Muslims are not allowed to convert
    people, Christians are encouraged to spread the
    word of God to all nations.
  • Acts 18
  • But you will receive power when the holy Spirit
    comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in
    Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to
    the ends of the world.

  • Talks of Pentecost Celebration of the Holy
    Spirit which is only believed in Christianity.

The Quran
  • Surah 2104-121
  • You do not have to be a Christian or Jew to get
    into heaven, you just have to submit yourself to
    God.
  • Although Christians Jews believe their texts
    are the right ones, Muslims believe that the
    Quran is more accurate and states that all you
    must do is believe in Allah.

  • Surah 981-8
  • Those who do good deeds will be rewarded with
    Allah and eternal gardens, those who reject the
    book will be in Hellfire. (Similar to
    Christianity Judaism)
  • Surah 1091-6
  • Only practice religions the way you have learned
    it. Other people have their own religions and you
    have yours. Be respectful of other peoples views
    on faith.

Judaism-Christianity
  • The background of Judaism is crucial for the
    understanding of Christianity whereas the
    Christian faith is not a factor in the Jewish
    faith.
  • Both stem from the revelation at Mt. Sinai
  • Both aware of the divine presence.

  • Muslims are more devout to the Quran whereas
    Christians are not as affluent with their texts.
  • Islam have set daily rituals whereas Christians
    are more lax.

  • Both dietary laws?

Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
  • Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an ongoing
    dispute between two peoples, Jewish Israelis and
    Arab Palestinians
  • Both claim the right to sovereignty over the Land
    of Israel/Palestine in whole or in part.

  • Based on regular prayer and the practice of
    charity.
  • Monotheistic
  • All have set laws.
  • All believe in the Lord of Creation.

Inter-faith Marriages
  • Surah 2221
  • Muslim man is not supposed to marry a non-Muslim
    woman unless she is a Person of the Book.
  • Muslim women may only marry a Muslim man.
  • A Muslim woman must follow the leadership from
    someone in her own faith.
