Finding Percent

• You can find percent by first dividing to find a
  decimal and then multiplying that number by 100.
  For example, the data below shows the number of
  dogs in Alabama and the number that are stray.
  To find the percent of strays in Alabama, first
  divide the number of stray dogs by the total
  number of dogs to get a decimal. Then round the
  decimal to the nearest hundredth and change the
  decimal to a percent.
• Ex. Dogs in Alabama 5,000
• Stray Dogs 1,000

• For this data, 1,000/5,000 .200000 which
  rounded to the nearest hundredth is 0.20. The
  decimal 0.20 when multiplied by 100 is equal to
  20 so 20 of dogs in Alabama are strays.
• 300 birds, 110 are blackbirds.
• What percentage are blackbirds?
