Mrs. Betty Huff serves as principal of the
Leslie County ATC and has been a registered nurse
for 34 years. She has devoted 26 of those years
to education fourteen years as a health science
instructor and twelve years as a principal.
Mrs. Huffs recommendations for the award came
from many local and state sources. Leslie County
High School Principal Omus Shepherd said, Mrs.
Huff exhibits examples of visionary leadership
and, at heart, she has the best interest of
students in their pursuit of both higher
education and the world of work. She has
proven to be a true leader, says Letcher Co. ATC
Principal Barbara Ison. She has worked closely
with the local school district and was
instrumental in Leslie County receiving
School-to-Work and Tech Prep funds. Not
only do local educators speak highly of Bettys
abilities, but so do her students. Mrs. Huff is
a very caring and kind lady. She is very
understanding and is always willing to listen to
student problems, says ATC student Brittany
Shepherd. She has a great sense of humor and a
wonderful rapport with the students and staff.
In addition to her duties at school, Mrs. Huff
also serves on the Leslie County Board of Health,
the Mary Breckinridge Festival Board of
Directors, the Frontier Nursing Service National
Nursing Council and the Leslie County Emergency
Response Team.
