Title: Crowdsourcing Graphic Design Projects: Advantages and Disadvantages

Crowd sourcing Graphic Design Projects
Advantages and Disadvantages
What is Crowdsourcing?
  • Crowdsourcing is a type of outsourcing, but there
is a core difference. When you outsource a
graphic design project, the outsourced company
works on your behalf. On the other hand, when
your crowdsource a project, anyone can
    participate in that project.

Example of Crowdsourcing
Online design contests organized by websites and
blogs. Hundreds of designers submit their designs
in these competitions, but only winner gets paid
for his work. There are some dedicated
crowdsourcing websites (99designs, crowd spring
etc.) out there as well. Clients post their
requirements in these websites and member
designers compete with each other to earn money.
Advantages of Crowdsourcing
  1. Designers come searching for you, you dont
    search them.
  2. Cost effective.
  3. Faster project completion.
  4. Multiple designs from hundreds of designers.

Disadvantages of Crowdsourcing
  1. Confidential details of the company can be
  2. Copyright problems as designers often submit the
    same design in different crowdsourcing
  3. Too many designs can cause confusion at the time
    of final selection.
  4. Mainly newbie designers and freelancers
participate in crowdsourcing projects. Hence, the
design quality is bound to be poor than an
    experienced artist.

Why is it Still Popular?
  • Small companies often dont have the money to
hire famous graphic designers and crowdsourcing
is a boon for them. Designers are also aware of
the fact that only winner will get the prize
money, but the competition in this market is so
tough that they simply dont bother as long as
there is an opportunity to win.
