    request. Your goal is to be successful the first
    time you make your request.

  • Initial data plan What is your goal? How do
    you expect this data to help you?
  • Find the keeper of the data.
  • Preliminary research
  • Determine whether or not data you need is
    available.
  • Ask for the resources policy in providing data
    necessary forms, whether or not there is a cost,
    protocols related to confidentiality, how to make
    your request successful.
  • Ask others who have been successful in obtaining
    data from that resource.

    association may be especially helpful.
  • 5. Write a detailed data plan, including your
    purpose in using the data and anything else that
    may be required by the data resource.
  • 6. Submit data request form or any required
    paperwork.
