2The Physics Case
Probe hadron properties (masses, widths,
formfactors ) in hot and dense nuclear matter by
using dielectrons!
- spontaneous breaking of the chiral symmetry
(QCD)
? generation of the constituent quark masses
- reduction in dense/hot medium
- changes of vector meson masses
- interactions of hadrons in nuclear matter
- r couples to N N-1 changes of the mass
and width
HOW TO MEASURE ?
3Measurement with penetrating probe
- reconstruction of vector meson mass as it was in
the dense phase
- vector meson ? (770 MeV/c2) has short
lifetime 1.3 fm/c - ? decays in dense phase to ee- pair
(BR4.4x10-5) - dileptons are penetrating probe
-
detection e and e- measurement
momentum
dense phase
only one pair in several millions collisions
experimental challenge
4HADES spectrometer
High acceptance dielectron spectrometer
- e, ?, K and p identification
- intelligent 3 levels lepton trigger
- ?m/m 1-2 _at_ ?/? mass
- up to 35 pair geom. acceptance
