Title: A monk asked Master Sekito, "What is the essential meaning of Buddhadharma" Sekito replied, "No gain

1
A monk asked Master Sekito, "What is the
essential meaning of Buddhadharma?" Sekito
replied, "No gaining, no knowing." "Can you say
anything further?" Sekito answered, "The
expansive sky does not obstruct the floating
white clouds."
relinquishment renunciation
2
technical push the performance boundaries of vrml
create a more appropriate navigation method
develop a stronger feeling of interaction with
the objects
implement a mathematical algorithm to generate a
universe
conceptual challenge the users perception of the
universe
challenge the users perception of behavior
take the user on a journey of self discovery
create something that is real, something in the
real world that has been created by the program
make a lasting point beyond the bounds of the
program
technical conceptual
3
renunciation is not giving up the things of the
world, but accepting that they go away
relinquishment is just opening the hand of
thought. when you open the hand of thought, your
ideas, your desires, they just fall away, they
fall through they slip through your fingers like
water.
relinquishment renunciation
4
there is collision detection
explore the idea of relinquishment
the answer is the same for everyone
it has a complex object alignment perception
algorithm
technically
you navigate differently
conceptually
you just take a different journey
you may not find the answer
it is represented using a combination of a
variety of media
technically conceptually
5
light is life, and will gradually diminish
thats all
begin
beginning what you should know

description the world was inspired by this
article
walkthrough initially the user is presented with
an object
it is natural for the user to enquire and gain
what they desire
the more the user tries to move towards the
object, the more it moves away from them
(randomly)
the universe is based on an illusion of perception
I would have liked the answer to be the actual
code that created the program, because it felt
more circular (instead of a description of
relinquishment) but it took too long to render
the object is emitting an annoying sound, yet the
user still desires it
only until the user relinquishes what they desire
(by moving far enough away from the object), does
the universe open itself to them
the project specification was to create something
based on the users interaction I wanted this
something to be real, so I chose to represent a
journey of self discovery a journey of
relinquishing ones desires
the sound changes from one of annoyance, to one
of peace and harmony
initially the universe is confusing and seemingly
random
the user moves towards a beacon the centre of
the universe
the journey gradually orders the universe and it
becomes clearer
I have made the navigation more appropriate to
the feeling of floating in space rather than the
rigid stop and start of the standard vrml
movement
until finally they reach the centre and the
universe is clear
at this point, the nature of their journey of
discovery becomes apparent
the users light (life) gradually fades away
leaving them in darkness
