Reasons why Alcohol Arrest Referral in custody
wont work.
  • Offenders will be too drunk to do a meaningful
    intervention.
  • Wont be enough time for an hour long
    intervention to take place while they are in
    custody.
  • Wont be able to get staff who will only work
    weekends, 6am to 2pm.
  • No one is interested in alcohol-its not illegal.
  • Alcohol users wont admit they have a problem.
  • An intervention will interfere with the custody
    process.
  • Custody staff wont be bothered - we all like a
    drink

JACQUELINE, AGE 20. Jacquelines car was hit by a
car driven by a 17 year old male student who had
been out for a few beers with his friends. Two of
her friends were killed instantly. Jacqueline was
trapped inside her blazing car. 60 of her body
was burned, her nose was burned so badly it had
to be amputated. This is Jacqueline after 40
operations with more to look forward to!

THERE IS NO SAFE LIMIT
  • Many drivers guess when they will be safe. DONT
    GUESS, the only safe way is to calculate when
    alcohol free by working out units drank one
    hour needed per unit for liver to metabolise
    alcohol.
  • E.G Start drinking 7pm Saturday.
  • Drink 10 pints 5 lager 28 units
  • 4x 35ml shots 6 units.
  • Total units 34 requiring 34 hours until safe to
    drive which is 5amMonday morning Surprised?
