3
Why this partnership?
  • Bexley became a Children's Trust Pathfinder
in 2003, by November the first Children's Trust
conference had taken place with a clear desire
from Practitioners to provide integrated service
to improve outcomes for Children and Young People
  • A group of Head teachers volunteered to take
part in this initiative (5 Primary schools and 1
    Secondary school)
  • Steering Group was set up and the Heads
    created the acronym MAISI

4
Where we are in the journey
  • A team of a Social Worker, School Health Advisor
(School Nurse), Primary School Health Advisor,
    Educational Welfare Officer, Behavioural Support
Worker and administrator have completed a years
    pilot.
  • Learning from the pilot seminars taking place
to discuss implications for future delivery of
    integrated services in Bexley.

5
Key challenges along the way
  • We dont speak the same language
  • We dont have the same processes
  • We do not deal with the same children
  • Universal provision versus targeted provision

6
Key successes
  • Single point of referral for schools reduced need
to navigate around different referral routes and
    threshold criteria, improved accessibility and
    reduced delays
  • Improved communication between the pilot core
team, school, parents and other agencies
  • Introduction of Common Assessment Framework

7
Key learning so far
  • Need to have time to understand each others
roles before the team is expected to work
    together
  • Leadership within the team is vital Need to
develop a clear process to apply for role.
  • True integration is not easy !

8
Whats in it for us and the partner/s?
  • A more proactive response
  • Ability to work across disciplines, recognising
core components of each professional role,
    reduces duplication of assessments
  • Ability to share information to benefit the
    Child/Young Person
