How 2005 AAEO gifts will be used
This years Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goal
of 55 million will continue to help 5,126
missionaries, most of them jointly sponsored
through partnerships with NAMB and state
conventions. These missionaries start churches in
rural and urban settings and reflect the ethnic
and cultural composition of their communities.
The missionaries also share the gospel by
focusing on evangelism and ministering to
peoples physical and spiritual needs in a
variety of settings. Heres an overview of how
this years receipts will be spent.
15 Church planting support
10 Evangelism support
75 Missionary salaries benefits

Medical Miracles
A national survey of U.S. doctors finds that a
slim majority say they have seen in their
patients treatment results they would consider to
be miracles. 55 of doctors said they would
describe some results that way, compared with 45
who did not, according to a survey by the Jewish
Theological Seminary in New York. 72 of the
physicians surveyed said they believe religion
provides a necessary and reliable guide to life.
When asked about prayer for patients, 59 said
they pray for individual patients, and 51 said
they pray for their patients as a group.

Why men and women lie
Women and men tell lies with the same frequency,
but for different reasons. Social psychologist
Robert Feldman of the University of Massachusetts
observed 121 pairs of students and found that 60
of them lied at least once while chatting with a
stranger for 10 minutes. Feldman found that women
tend to lie in order to smooth out social
situations. Men tend to lie out of a sense of
competitiveness. So women are more likely to say
theyve seen a movie theyve never seen to make
the other person feel better. Men, on the other
hand, lie to make themselves look
better. Source The Week and Torontos National

Bible-belt Catholics Southern Catholics saw
growth of almost 30 in the 1990s, compared with
less than 10 growth for Baptists, who make up
the Souths largest denomination. Time magazine
cited northern transplants and Mexican immigrants
as major causes for this growth as well as the
rising number of converts. Source Time,

Language of choice Hispanic Americans are moving
steadily toward English monolingualism, according
to an analysis of census data by the State
University of New York at Albany. English remains
the language of choice among the children and
grandchildren of Hispanic immigrants. The report
found that 72 of Hispanic children who were
third-generation or later spoke English
exclusively. Source The New York Times,
