What is ADS-B ?
  • Always ON No operator attention is required
  • It relies on very accurate GPS position data
  • Provides aircraft position, altitude, speed,
    heading ,
  • Identification and other data
  • Data is broadcast to any aircraft or ground
    station
  • equipped to receive the signal.

What is ADS-B ?What makes it work?
  • GPS
  • WAAS
  • LINKS
  • 1090
  • UAT
  • GBT

5
What is GPS ?
  • G Global
  • P Positioning
  • S System

6
What is WAAS?
Wide Area Augmentation System
  • WAAS consists of
  • reference stations
  • master stations
  • geosynchronous satellites
  • uplink stations
  • WAAS augments the GPS constellation to meet the
    necessary integrity, availability, accuracy, and
continuity for use in all phases of flight

7
What are the LINKS?
8
What is 1090 ES?
  • In 2002, the FAA has announced a dual link
decision using 1090 MHz ES and UAT as mediums for
the ADS-B system in the United States.
  • The 1090 MHz extended squitter ADS-B link for air
carrier and private/commercial operators of high
    performance aircraft.

9
What is UAT?
  • U Universal
  • A Access
  • T Transceiver
  • UAT system was specifically designed for ADS-B
    operation.
  • UAT uses 978 MHz
  • UAT users have access to ground-based
aeronautical data and can receive reports from
    proximate traffic (FIS-B and TIS-B).

10
What is a GBT?
  • G Ground
  • B Based
  • T Transmitter

11
Why ADS-B?
  • Greater Capacity
  • Improved Efficiency
  • Safety Improvements
  • Traffic
  • Terrain
  • Weather
