Q. What exactly are the Traffic Light Tracker
Systems? The Traffic Light Tracker systems are
designed for ease of use by teachers as a
teaching tool. They provide an almost instant
and highly intuitive interpretation of how well
students are meeting their potential by colour
coding the result of end of topic tests taken
throughout a term. The aim of the system is to
help identifying how well the students are
meeting their potential, and so allow early
intervention strategies to take place. The
progress made by the student is shared with the
student using pupil grids that the students
colours in after each test.

Green on track Amber close to target Red
missed target this time. In addition using the
Rainbow sort function, this groups all the
green amber and red students together. The
current performance of each teaching group is now
available to print out at the touch of a button.
Some schools use this function to produce wall
displays. The systems are not intended to
replace existing record keeping systems or school
data bases, but rather to make use in the
classroom of the various data sources assigned to
each pupil that are available in school.

Q. What pupil data can be used by the
systems? When supplied with the KS3 average
points the system works out for each pupil the
lower, median and upper Autumn package forecasts
specific to the GCSE subject chosen (available
for up to 26 GCSE subjects). In addition to
using KS3 data, target data can also be entered
as GCSE Grades AND as GCSE Points many schools
are now using this to allow them to use their FFT
data. Once all the target data is entered the
user can switch between them at a touch of a
button.

Q. What other features of the system are useful
to a teacher / HOD The current percentage of
Green Amber and Red students is constantly
displayed and updates each time a test result is
entered. This is also done for boy/ girl to
allow gender difference to be tracked. The
current A - C for the year group is displayed
based on test taken so far. The theoretical A -
C for each of the forecast data entered is also
shown. The statistics displayed in each system
enable a teacher / Head of department to compare
the current performance of a year group with the
theoretical target for that year group. To
reach the theoretical target the pupils who need
to be helped are clearly identified in amber or
red.

Q. How many tests are used to measure value added
progress. KS4 Whole School With these systems
there are seven opportunities to measure value
added progress in an academic year. Twice per
term and then in an end of year mock, the user is
able change the names of these tests as they
appear on the pupil grid and in the case of the
Percent entry system the grade boundaries are
fully customizable by the user. KS3 Whole School
12 tests Also available are Specific Science
Systems to match QCA Exploring Science KS2 KS3
and AQA Modular Science.
