Workbook A Your Top 1 and Top 2 Chapters
will usually be Preventive Procedures and Other
Therapeutic Procedures. What are your Top 3, 4
and 5 Chapters as this is your main clinical
workload? Can you notice any changes in the
order or volume of these chapters compared to
last month? Consider reasons e.g. staff absence,
QOF
Step 1
Workbook B Look at Breakdown all worksheets to
identify the most common Read codes. Which staff
groups are using these? How is the workload
divided between clinician groups?
Step 2
Workbook A chapters recording rate
Workbook B Breakdown 1-10 (all)
Step 3
Workbook B Look at the Breakdown worksheets by
individual clinician groups. Identify any
significant workload that could be transferred or
delegated.
Workbook B Are there any unexplained variations
in apparent workload between individual
clinicians? Are these due to coding practices,
template usage or actual workload differences?
Step 4
Workbook B Look through the graphs to check for
any rogue codes such as 2 digit high level
codes that may be unnecessary if more specific
read codes are used H/O or F/H where a
diagnostic code could be used use of X read

errors such as males who have had smear tests,
females who have had a vasectomy
