3
Directorate General of Hydrocarbons
Under Ministry of Petroleum Natural Gas
Government of India
4
DGH, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons is the
technical arm of Ministry of Petroleum
Natural Gas, Govt. of India , to promote and
manage the Indian Petroleum and Natural Gas
resources effectively and efficiently with
balanced regard to the environmental, safety,
technological and economic aspects of the country
and the industry.
5
Resource Base
  • Sedimentary Area 3.14 M. Sq. Km.
    ( 4 of the
    worlds sedimentary area)
  • Sedimentary Basins 26
  • Prognosticated Resources 28 Billion tonnes
    (205 Billion bbls)

6
Exploration Status
7
Exploration Status
  • Only 18 of the total 3.14 million sq. km. has
    been extensively explored
  • established
  • Reserves estimated only in 15 of the 26 basins
  • Low Drilling Density

8
  • The exploration and production activities were
carried out in various sedimentary blocks in
India by NOCs on nomination basis till
    formulation NELP and ML policies
  • After formulation of NELP and ML policies the
blocks of sedimentary basins were awarded for
Exploration and production activities to NOCs as
well as Private Oil Companies on competitive
    bidding.

In addition to data generated by operations
under NELP ML blocks which are available with
DGH and by NOCs under nomination blocks various
government organizations were also actively
involved in acquisition, processing and
interpretation of Geo-science Data over many
years.
19
Nine organizations involved in Geo-Science
operations are members of NDR in India
  • ONGC
  • OIL
  • GSI
  • NGRI
  • NRSA
  • IIG

National Data Repository of Geo-Science data
acquired by these organizations will facilitate
all the participating companies a great deal in
Hydrocarbon prospecting in India in the open
acreage system.
22
NATIONAL DATA REPOSITORY VISION
To Provide World Class Environment for all E P
Activities in India
23
NATIONAL DATA REPOSITORY
MISSION To setup National Repository of
quality and reliable Geo-Science data in India
with provision for Seamless Access and On-line
Data Management for Knowledge Assimilation.
24
NATIONAL DATA REPOSITORY
  • OBJECTIVES
  • To Store, validate and maintain high quality
    reliable Geo-Science data
  • To facilitate efficient data reporting, data
exchange data trading among existing players
    including all Geo-scientific Agencies
  • To Encourage new activity by providing high
    quality reliable data
  • To secure time cost efficient and innovative
  • services solutions
  • Contd

25
NATIONAL DATA REPOSITORY OBJECTIVES
  • To facilitate a synergetic approach to all the
  • Geo-Scientists Petroleum Engineers
  • To establish a link between all E P companies,
  • Geo-scientific Agencies and Government
  • To strengthen overall Geo-Science activities in
    India
  • To have an open acreage system for an
  • improved Global E P Business environment
  • in India

26

Data Sharing Policy
  • No Data Sharing Policy is in existence as of now
  • Draft Data Sharing Policy under preparation
  • Member organizations of NDR in India come under
different Ministries which makes the task of
    data sharing policy difficult

31
  • Data irrespective of, who has acquired it, is
    National Asset.
  • Access to data should be given for National
    development.
  • Enlightened geo-scientific ambience to be created
so that any organization, university or academic
institute has access to industry standard data to
    enable in evolving refined geological
    models/concepts of sedimentary basins.
  • Rights to Information Act is coming in place in
    India.
