1
Revealing Our Hearts Toward One Another
  • Considering our thoughts, speech, and behavior
    toward each other.

2
Introduction
  • Before we leave this world and are translated
into perfection with all the saints
  • We must live in this world with all our flaws
    among the saints.
  • Until we get to heaven we are exhorted to strive
    in unity for perfection.

3
Introduction
  • While we strive for unity, we are continually
beset by the flaws we wish to rid
  • Pride.
  • Selfishness.
  • Overall worldliness.

4
Introduction
  • It is because of our worldliness and living in
the flesh that we struggle in our relationships
here on earth even with those we are striving
    to be with for eternity.
  • It is important, therefore, that we take a
    sobering look at our hearts
  • What are our thoughts for or against each other.
  • How do we speak about and/or toward each other.
  • What do we do for or against each other.

5
Our Thoughts Toward Each Other
  • Our thoughts are the key to how we walk before
    God.
  • As a man thinks in his heart, so he is. Prov.
    237
  • While our thoughts do not always manifest itself
outwardlythey do reveal the kind of hearts we
    possess.
  • One whose heart is set on things above reveal a
    spiritual mind. Phil. 48
  • Immoral and ungodly thoughts reveal an evil
    heart. Matt. 1519

6
Our Thoughts Toward Each Other
  • The necessity of godly thoughts.
  • Helps us focus on God, not that which is evil.
  • Helps us focus on our brethren and how we value
    them from within.
  • In due time our thoughts toward one another
    eventually reveals itself
  • Through our speech.
  • Through our behavior.

7
Our Speech Toward Each Other
  • Out of the abundance of the heart a man speaks.
    Lk. 645
  • Those with an evil heart think one way but speaks
    another. Cp. Prov. 237
  • Those with a good and noble heart (Speak the
    truth and sincerity).
  • Those with a good heart speak openly and
    forthrightly.

8
Our Speech Toward Each Other
  • We do not need to speak to an individual to
reveal our hearts about an individual
  • Our heart is revealed when we speak about another
    individual.
  • Is this brother esteemed or spoken in a manner
    that is lightly esteemed.
  • Do we speak about another in the same way as if
    speaking to him.
  • Do we speak in whispers or openly.

9
Our Speech Toward Each Other
  • Thus, our speech whether to or about another
is very telling about what resides within the
    heart. Cp. Jas. 31ff
  • Careless speech can cause much harm felt by more
    than can be imagined.
  • Those who are perfect are able to bridle their
    tongue and use it forthrightly.

10
Our Speech Toward Each Other

  • Our speech should be seasoned with grace. Col.

acceptable to the Lord and beneficial to every
soul you speak to. Eph. 429
  • No evil can (rightfully) be spoken against you.
    Tit. 28

11
Our Behavior Toward Each Other
  • As is our speech, so is our behavior. Jas.
    313-18
  • Those who do the will of God are those who will
    enter Gods kingdom. Matt. 721
  • Simply thinking or speaking Gods will to the
neglect of doing His will reveals
  • The good heart repents when he has sinned. cp.
    Lk. 1517-20
  • The evil heart does not. Jas. 219-20

12
Our Behavior Toward Each Other
  • Our behavior toward one another reveals our
    hearts about that person

  • Because Christians are to be careful how we
behave in the household of God. 1 Tim. 315
  • For people to highly esteem you.
  • Because what we sow here on earth (among the
saints) we will reap for eternity. Matt. 717-21

14
Conclusion
  • While we cannot read whats in the heart of
man, we see the results of it through our speech
