Title: Action Plan 21 Third Surface Management Workshop NASA Ames Research Center Mountain View, California
1Action Plan 21Third Surface Management
WorkshopNASA Ames Research CenterMountain
View, CaliforniaOctober 30 - November 1,
2007Sandy Lozito and Christoph Meier (Co-Chairs)
2History and last Workshop
3History
- In October 2003 we had a very successful First
Workshop in Boston co-hosted by MIT and DLR - European Commission, EUROCONTROL, NASA, FAA,
other users and researchers - Objective Sharing and mutual understanding of
what is done in the US and Europe - Presentations available on CD
- In 2004 Dres Zellweger asked for an Action Plan
on Airport Surface Research and Development under
the FAA-EUROCONTROL Memorandum of Cooperation - The Action Plan 21 Surface Operations Research
Advanced-Surface Movement Guidance and Control
System and Collaborative Decision-Making
(A-SMGCS CDM) was drafted by a small team and
approved in January 2005 - Second workshop was held in October 2005 at DLR
- Objective An update to research efforts among
the researchers in Surface Management
4Benefits of collaboration across the Atlantic
Ocean
- Exchange, cross-checking and analysis of ideas
and views - Harmonization of research and implementation is
easier if we work together in the early stages of
development - Possibility to discuss developed approaches at an
early stage with users that might have different
requirements - Working across borders and different cultures can
be very motivating for scientists and can help
foster new research ideas - Safe, efficient and green air transport is a
global challenge - Globally interoperability is required by airspace
users
