- Number of support staff managers circa 28,500
- Exchequer funding 60 million for education,
training and development interventions to 2008 - Additional funding 12 million p.a. (index
linked) available 2009 onwards - Contribution towards backfilling costs included
- Independent evaluation being conducted to measure

7Whats been happening so far?
- Steering Group established Project Team
appointed - Training and learning needs questionnaire issued
- Focus groups held to research and identify the
knowledge, skills, attributes and motivation
required of support staff their supervisors to
carry out their roles - Arising from the research, competency frameworks
developed - Tenders for providers sought www.etenders.gov.ie
providers appointed to deliver the programmes - Health service staff have been working with the
training providers as 'Subject Matter Experts' - Pearn Kandola, (Occupational Psychologists) have
been commissioned to carry out the ongoing
independent evaluation to determine the
effectiveness of the training programmes
delivered.

10Who are the training providers?
- Consortium of VECs led by CDVEC main provider
- Open Training College ID sector - specialist
modules x 2 - UCD HCAs in Radiography Services - specialist
modules x 2 - Centres for Nurse Education (CNEs) - continue to
deliver HCA programme - Each individual will access a Pre Learning
Assessment (PLA) prior to commencing their FETAC
programme

12SKILL Project Awards Level 5
- 8 modules accredited at FETAC level 5 FETAC
level 5 award - Each module normally 3 days duration
- Time frame 12 months approx
- Assessments project based, group assignments
exams in some modules but there will be ongoing
guidance support from the tutors - Workplace support and onsite supervisors/assessors

- Module preparation development may continue
till Summer/early Autumn for some specialist
modules - Initial module delivery by OTC, UCD, VECs
February to April/May 2006 - Independent evaluation first report due end
May/June 2006 - Full roll-out of programmes from May/June 2006
onwards
